Inspiration for Creating Shapes & Pattern
My Grandmother Rose shared her love of fairy tales with me when I was a little girl. With my eyes closed, I would create a colorful, visual movie in my mind. I believe my paintings reflect my love of the imaginary world, and they are often inspired with sketches I have made in my journal, that begin with marks made on the paper . . . with my eyes closed.
I've been told by several instructors, that watching me paint is like watching a puzzle come together because of all the shapes and patterns I tend to use. My art represents my vision of what I would like the world to be, full of warmth, wonder, magic and spirituality. Painting allows me the opportunity to create my dream of the world. My hope is that my work will touch the child in every viewer.
My style is influenced by a musical background and a long association with advertising graphics, contibuting to the way I employ color, pattern, and movement.
The viewer is always in my mind, and the emotion I want to evoke is delight. It pleases me to watch people looking at my paintings. It pleases me to see their expressions of happy surprise, of curiosity and exploration, of gentleness. |
